SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- A $6.4 million bond approved by the Spring Valley Board of Trustees as a means to repair roads and fund a sorely deficient village fire department was improperly written and will have to be approved again, according to lohud.com.

The delay is likely to cause the village to miss at least one deadline for improvements given after state officials found a number of violations at the department, according to lohud.com.

In February, the $6.4 million bond was unanimously approved by the Village Board, which doesn't often agree on the best courses of action for Spring Valley.

Fire Chief Ken Sohlman said that the original bond only included money for department vehicles and neglected other much-needed equipment, according to lohud.com.

State officials issued at least four violations after finding issues within the village fire department, including one for damaged turnout gear that should have been removed from service and replaced. The deadline to fix that violation is April 4, according to lohud.com.

Several other deadlines are scattered across April, June and July. The village is subject to a $200-a-day fine for every day each violation remains, according to lohud.com.
