SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Suffern Mayor Ed Markunas, a retired police officer, has issued a statement of support for the Dallas Police after the killings of five officers Thursday night.

The statement is as follows:

On behalf of the Village Board, I extend my sincere, deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and the Dallas Police Departments on the tragic loss of the 5 Police Officers who were shot and killed in Texas last night. Although their Tours of Duty have suddenly ceased, we pray that perpetual light shine upon the souls of these brave Officers. Also, please remember in your thoughts and prayers, the Police Officers who were wounded and injured in last night's attack. Let’s not forget that Police Officers put their lives on the line every single day to protect and serve our communities across this great nation. The targeting and killing of the Police is totally intolerable! The Village of Suffern appreciates, supports and cares about our Police Department! BLUE LIVES MATTER!
