SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- A Spring Valley man has been sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for stabbing to death a volunteer firefighter from Orange County on New Year's Eve 2016.
Jauntae Brown, 20, was sentenced Monday in Orange County Court for killing Justin Speights, a Silver Lake firefighter, and former Pine Bush High School football player, according to multiple sources.
Speights, 20, was stabbed to death while trying to break up a fight during a large New Year's Eve party in the Town of Crawford, police said.
Brown pleaded guilty in March to second-degree manslaughter in return for a prison term of five to 15 years.
He had been indicted by a grand jury on felony charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.
Brown was arrested in December following an 11-month investigation.
