RAMAPO, N.Y. -- As New Year's Eve approaches, Ramapo police are warning, driver's -- if you plan on drinking, don't drive -- or you might end up behind bars.
The department will be taking part in a statewide effort aimed at cracking down on drinking and driving, and are asking residents to have a plan in place and a designated driver on hand.
Nationally, more than 10,000 people die each year in drunk-driving crashes.
Some tips to avoid being busted, injured or even killed include:
⦁ If you’re intoxicated, don't walk! The safest way to get home is to take a cab, Uber or mass transit or have a sober friend or family member give you a ride;
⦁ Spend the night where the party is being held;
⦁ If you see an impaired driver on the road, call 911 and report their location;
⦁ Always buckle up -- it's the best defense against a drunk driver;
⦁ Be responsible: Stop a friend or, even a stranger, who are obviously drunk from driving.
