RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police have arrested a 32-year-old man on a harassment charge following a confrontation between a pair of roommates at a local residence Friday evening, authorities said.

The arrest came about after police responded to a physical altercation between the tenants on Old Nyack Turnpike (Route 52) in South Spring Valley, according to officials.

The incident allegedly began when one tenant came home to find his roommate yelling on the deck while on a phone call, police report.

The complainant stated that due to a history of violent behavior, he decided to call the building manager, according to officials.

When the suspect realized that his roommate was calling the building manager, he came inside screaming at and shoving the caller, police report.

The complainant signed harassment charges against the man, who was arrested by police; the defendant was arraigned before a Ramapo justice, and must answer the charge against him on a future date, according to officials.

Ramapo police officers investigated nine motor vehicle accidents Friday, including three in Monsey and others in Viola, New Hempstead, Ladentown and Hillcrest.

Three of the accidents involved injuries, and one was a hit and run, according to officials.

Ramapo police handled 99 calls on Friday, including 15 alarm activations, three fires and nine medical emergencies.
