RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police have charged a 19-year-old resident of Monsey with possession of marijuana.
An officer on a routine patrol observed a man smoking what smelled like a marijuana cigarette on Route 306 in the Viola section of the town on Saturday about 6:25 p.m., police report.
The officer stopped the man and began an investigation, leading to the man’s arrest, according to officials.
The suspect was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police report.
The defendant was released on bail with a return court date at the Ramapo Justice Court, according to officials.
Police report motor vehicle accidents in Ramapo occurred at the following locations on Saturday: Orange Turnpike in Sloatsburg; Route 59 in Airmont; Old Nyack Turnpike in Monsey; Route 17 in Sloatsburg; and Viola Road in New Hempstead.
In total, the Ramapo Police Department responded to 74 calls for service, 13 alarm activations, two fires, 10 medical emergencies and five motor vehicle accidents, according to officials.
