Police Officer Chases Down Shoplifter Who Assaulted Guard In Paramus

PARAMUS, N.J. -- What began as a New Year's Eve shoplifting became a robbery when a Rockland County man grabbed a security guard by the neck and threw him to the ground, Paramus police said.

Donnie L. Broadnx, 46, fled the Target store but was spotted by Officer Mark Pinajian fleeing the Outlets at Bergen Town Center toward Maywood on Spring Valley Avenue around noon Thursday, Deputy Police Chief Robert Guidetti said.

Broandnax circled back into he mall through the parking lot, but Pinajian found him hiding behind a clothing rack, the deputy chief said. He was carrying a magnetic anti-theft tag remover, Guidetti said.

Pinajian also recovered a PS4 and Nintendo Wii video games worth a combined $450 under a vehicle in the parking lot, he said.

Broadnax was being held on $100,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery, resisting arrest and burglary. A Jan. 13 court appearance was scheduled.
