ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Ramapo Police Officer racing to a medical emergency was stopped in his tracks on Saturday, July 29, when a deer jumped in front of his vehicle.
The incident -- which the police are using as a warning to residents that deer are out and about and can suddenly appear in their path -- was caught on video by the officer's dash cam.
According to police, the officer was patrolling the Summit Park Elementary School around 3:30 a.m. on a routine school security check, when he received a radio-run for a medical emergency in Hillcrest.
This video shows a deer darting out into the path of the police vehicle while the officer was in an emergency-mode, responding to the medical. The deer was struck and killed by the police vehicle. The officer was not injured, and another unit was promptly dispatched to the medical call.
