Ramapo Police Union Close to Signing New Contract With City

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo officials announced they are close to signing a contract with the city's police union if they will agree to try and maintain salary levels that are some of the highest in the state, according to Lohud.com.

The proposed five-year contract, which comes as Ramapo officials are trying to rein in costs, would provide raises of .05 percent in 2018 and 1 percent in 2019; but no pay raises for 2015-17.

In addition, Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence has said 12 officers have agreed to retire by the end of this year which, even with retirement benefits, will eventually save the town money, Lohud.com.

If agreed upon, the contract would also cap longevity pay; cut raises for promoted officers by 10 percent, and would reduce the starting salary for new officers by $10,000 to $48,000, added Lohud.com.
