Several residents throughout the area were recently contacted over the phone by a party representing themselves as members of the Sussex County Sheriff's Office.
The scammer then threatens to arrest the victim unless they can pay off a certain debt.
“Do not fall for this latest scam,” authorities said. “The Sussex County Sheriff's Office is not making these calls.”
Anyone who believes they received this type of scam call is urged to contact the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office at 973-383-1570 ext. 4526.
