RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A large residential and commercial development called Tuxedo Farms that will include more than 1,200 homes is being built in Orange County, near the town of Ramapo, according to lohud.com.

Construction began last month on a new waste-water treatment facility for the town of Tuxedo, and site work has begun on the development's roads and its first four neighborhoods. The homes will range in price from , $450,000 for cottages to $1.5 million for mansions, lohud.com said.

Related Companies, the lead developer, says that about 800 of the site's 1,250 acres will remain as open space. The town is sandwiched between two large state parks (Sterling Forest and Harriman) and more than 70 percent of Tuxedo is protected parkland, reported lohud.com.

Along with the several residential neighborhoods, the development will also include a YMCA, a grocery store, a Village Green, parks and playgrounds, lohud.com said.

The company has provided a $2 million grant for downtown beautification and a gift of $2.5 million to the Tuxedo Union Free School District for capital improvements along with a donation of 40 acres for future expansion. They have also promised a rail station, added lohud.com.
