The market started in 2005 and has since flourished into a weekly event every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between May and November. The Piermont Market is centrally located in Piermont’s M&T Bank Lot adjacent to the town square and the Hudson River.

The market features a total of 19 participating vendors offering everything from dog biscuits to pickles on a stick.

Steve Lawes, an on-site representative from the Piermont Farmers’ Market organization, sees local food and wellness for the community as being one and the same.

“It’s something I can really get behind,” Lawes explains, “The goal is to support the community and see the people who produce the food. You see them, meet them. It just feels right.”

According to him, the market’s criterial for vendors is simple.

“It has to be local. Organic when we can.”

There’s no shortage of vendors at the Piermont Farmers’ Market who offer unique, locally based products.

For example. Xquisite Coffee is a regular vendor at the market with irregularly good products.

The coffee company is owned by Mark and Jovita Jefferson, two Ossining, residents, who emigrated from Guatemala where they still today have a coffee bean farm which provides for their business.

Xquisite Coffee isn’t the only vendor with genuinely wholesome products.

Maitri Farm is an organic produce vendor and a regular at the market. They are based out of Amenia in Dutchess County, where they grow flowers, fruits, and vegetables, all of which as USDA Certified Organic.

Local food is ingrained into the heart and soul of Piermont. Cornell Cooperative Extension is always present at the market ready to give advice to the hundreds of avid gardeners in the community, including those who regularly help out at Piermont’s community garden.

There is a well of support for local farming and food in Piermont and the Piermont Farmers’ Market certainly delivers.
