Paterson Artist Nominated For Coveted Spot On Hip-Hop List

PATERSON, N.J. – Every summer, XXL magazine honors hip-hop up-and-comers with its "XXL Freshman Class" list, and the final spot is always determined by fans.

Remy Boy Monty of Paterson was nominated last year as well. Here's his pitch from 2016. His new one will be posted shortly.

This year, Paterson's Remy Boy Monty, 26, is one of the 116 nominees from across the country. The magazine picks the list's top nine honorees, and the "10th Spot" honor goes to the artist with the most fan votes that wasn't selected for the top nine.

Other Jerseyans vying for a spot – voter-chosen or otherwise – are 19-year-old 070 Shake from North Bergen and 23-year-old Mir Fontane from Camden.

Voting opened Monday and will continue until midnight on April 2, and you can vote every four hours. Do so here.
