State Judge Rules Chestnut Ridge Tried To Force Landscaper Out Of Business

CHESTNUT RIDGE, N.Y. – A state judge has ruled that the Village of Chestnut Ridge illegally tried to shut down a landscaper's business for about 10 years, according to lohud.com.

The litigation between the village and Steve Slackman stemmed from accusations that Slackman was in violation of local zoning laws by operating a landscaping business on his property. These laws prohibit the storage of equipment, according to lohud.com.

Slackman says that his business was "singled out" because the Chestnut Ridge Associates corporation sought to develop a property near his. He added that multiple landscapers operated in the area without encountering push-back from local officials, reported lohud.com.

He is seeking $3 million in damages, which includes $150,000 in legal fees, lohud.com noted.
