The 72-year-old environmental consultant and musician has been keeping an eagle eye on the drinking water source for millions of folks in New York and New Jersey for decades, lohud.com reported.

As a font of knowledge about the sensitive aquifer, Welch not only documents the continued encroachment of industry and urban development, he makes sure the public is fully aware of what’s going on by organizing conferences, speaking up at meetings, and hunting down money to fix what needs to be fixed, the lohud.com story said.
