Mederer entered the program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT test, the district said, noting that it includes more than one million participants annually.

The senior will compete for one of 7,500 scholarships, the district said, adding that they are collectively worth $33 million.

The district added that winners will be named in four announcements that will be released from April to July.
