Man, Woman Nabbed In Western Mass In Stolen Vehicle, Police Say

 Two people were arrested in Western Massachusetts in connection with an alleged stolen vehicle.

Herbert Smith, age 46, of Worcester, and Rachel Keating, age 34, of Springfield, were arrested on Friday, July 16, after police received a GPS location on a vehicle in Ludlow that had been reported stolen earlier in the day.

When officers arrived on the scene of where the vehicle was located a the Big Y Plaza, Smith and Keating were inside the vehicle, the Ludlow Police said.

Following an investigation, both were arrested for theft of the vehicle, police said.

During the arrest, Smith allegedly made threats toward the officers and spat on officers, and urinated in a cell block.

Smith was charged with:

  • Receiving stolen property
  • Driving with a suspended license
  • Assault and battery on a police officer
  • Threats to commit a murder
  • Possession of a Class A substance
  • Possession of a Class B substance
  • Two counts of vandalism

He is being held on a $10,000 bail. 

Keating, who was wanted on a warrant, was taken to the Hampden County Women's Facility without bail.
