Tendy utilized funds from the District Attorney Asset Forfeiture funds and Safe Streets Grant funds to purchase five body armor vests for the Kent Police Department, which were recently delivered to officers.

According to Tendy, in the past year, he has used grants and asset forfeiture funds to provide simulator training pistols, electronic devices and other equipment to law enforcement agencies in Putnam. He said that purchasing the body armor vests for police in Kent was an easy decision.

“Over the past year, various law enforcement agencies have contacted my office and have put in requests for equipment to help in their assignments,” Tendy added. Chief Alex DiVernieri contacted my office and said that he could really use their vests, (that) they are so important to save lives. I said yes right away.

“The safety of our officers is paramount,” DeVernieri said in thanking Tendy. “These vests (are) providing them with the tools they need to stay safe.

Tendy noted that this is just the beginning of his office using the District Attorney Forfeiture funds to help outfit law enforcement agencies with improved equipment.

“That’s what the money is for, to help the deputies, police officers and troopers do their job safely and effectively,” he said. “We are going to do a lot more of it. Anything we can do to help, we will do it.”
