An increase in the use of counterfeit money has been reported in Putnam County.
Currently, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office is investigating several cases in which counterfeit $100 bills are being used to make smaller purchases at convenience stores, drug stores, and eateries, the department said.
The small purchase being made allows the suspects to walk away with legal money leaving their unsuspecting victims short financially, the department said.
All merchants and consumers are being asked to check the money used during a transaction for its authenticity.
Anyone who suspects they have received counterfeit currency should contact local law enforcement.
