Home Catches Fire After Lightning Strike In Putnam

A house struck by lightning in Putnam County during a thunderstorm on Wednesday was saved by firefighters with the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

The storm, which occurred around 4:30 p.m., sent lighting flying into the side of a home on Old Stone House Road in Putnam Valley, the fire department said on Facebook. 

Flames burned the side of the house, but firefighters were able to extinguish them within minutes, they added.

In addition to the house fire, the department also responded to a transformer fire, wires down on Kramers Pond Road during the earlier storm, an automatic fire alarm call, and another house fire on Park Drive around 9 p.m.
