A 34-year-old area man was killed in a motorcycle crash after driving off the roadway and crashing into a number of trees.

The crash took place in Dutchess County around 3:25 p.m., on Monday, June 8, on Route 9 in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

The Poughkeepsie resident, whose name has not yet been released, was driving the motorcycle at the intersection of the Post Road Plaza at Route 9 (2566 South Road), when he drove off the pavement and into the center median where he struck a number of trees, Town of Poughkeepsie PD Capt. Michael O’Dowd said.

The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at the emergency room of MidHudson Regional Hospital.

An investigation has developed information that a red and white sport style motorcycle was seen in the area, traveling at a high rate of speed, at the time of the crash.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is asking any witnesses to the accident, or anyone that has information regarding the identity of the operator of the sport motorcycle, to contact the department at 845-485-3680.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted at the scene by members of the Arlington Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services.
