Both drivers, as well as Aguilar’s passenger, had to be extricated and were taken to the trauma unit at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A follow-up investigation showed that Aguilar was drunk at the time of the crash.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular assault, as well as DWI, reckless driving, and open container before being taken to Mercer County Corrections pending a future Mercer County Superior Court appearance.

The roadway was shut down for about four hours following the crash.
