Special Patrol Officer Timothy J. Stewart of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office died on Monday, Jan. 30, leaving behind his wife and son, the Sheriff's Office announced.

Stewart joined the Sheriff's Office after spending 29 years with the City of New York Police Department, which he retired from in 2019 as a detective.

He then spent years stationed at the Putnam County Office Building, where he was known for giving a "welcoming hello" to the building's visitors, the Sheriff's Office said.

Described as a "team leader, a go-to-guy, super calm and levelheaded," the Sheriff's Office mourned Stewart in their announcement of his death.

"SPO Stewart leaves behind a legacy of public service to others," they said, adding, "we know that Tim and his smile shall be missed by all," in a post on social media.

A wake for Stewart will be held on Friday, Feb. 3 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights located at 2104 Saw Mill River Rd.

A mass of Christian burial will then be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. at the St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown located at 137 Moseman Rd.
