SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- The owner of Towne Centre Tobacco in Southeast is accused of running a scheme to sell untaxed tobacco products, according to lohud.com
Shelley Wright, owner of the shop on Route 22, was arrested after police seized 765 cartons of cigarettes, 3,317 cigars and almost 60 pounds of loose tobacco from the business, lohud.com reported, citing information from the New York state Department of Taxation and Finance.
According to the newspaper, Wright, of Danbury, Conn., faces felony counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument for possessing counterfeit tax stamps, possession of untaxed cigarettes for the purpose of sale and criminal tax fraud.
