Using data from the latest U.S. Census, New York Upstate determined the poorest places to live in upstate New York, including a pair of communities in the Hudson Valley.
The report only includes locales from upstate - which is considered by the website to be areas north of Westchester and Rockland Counties.
The study evaluated median household income, family income, non-family income and the total households in each community in upstate New York.
Hudson Valley communities to make the top-50 list:
Pine Bush, Orange County (sixth overall):
- Median household income: $26,964;
- Family median: $75,357;
- Non-family median: $19,063;
- Total households: 719;
- Previous rank: 11.
Kiryas Joel, Orange County (16th):
- Median household income: $30,525;
- Family median: $30,688;
- Non-family median: not listed;
- Total households: 4,100;
- Previous rank: 6.
