CARMEL, N.Y. -- To ease the holiday blood supply shortage, Putnam Hospital Center will collect blood donations with the American Red Cross on Dec. 28 at the Carmel hospital.
The blood drive, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., is open to the general public and hospital employees. It will be held in the Michael T. Weber Conference Room 2, 670 Stoneleigh Ave.
To make an appointment, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App or call 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767) or visit the website.
American Red Cross officials say they need about 1,000 units of blood every day to meet the needs of patients in the New York-Penn Blood Services region. But blood donations typically drop off about 20 percent during the holidays.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity to coordinate with the community to fill our blood banks in their hour of need,” said Joanne Williams, blood bank lead technologist for Putnam Hospital Center.
Donors will receive a sports bottle for their life-saving donation, officials said.
