KENT, N,Y. -- Hey little book lovers, you better get reading to be ready for the next Newbery Book Club meeting at the Kent Library on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
December's Book is "Maniac Magee" by Jerry Spinelli about an orphan boy looking for a home in the fictional Pennsylvania town of Two Mills. It also explores themes of racism and homelessness as it follows the boy's story.
The book club is designed to read Newbery- Award winning books for third, fourth and fifth grade students. During the meeting, leaders will discuss the history behind the Award and the man named John Newbery, in addition to talking about the book of the month.
The book club meets from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. The books selected are often on most schools summer reading lists, and are favorites of parents and teachers, as well as the children.
The library is located at 17 Sybil's Crossing, Kent Lakes. Registration is required, as is having read the book completely before the meetings. If you need help registering, please call the Library at 845-225-8585.
