Originally developed at the Hawk’s Well Theatre in Sligo County, Ireland, “The Man in the Woman’s Shoes” went on to win the Stewart Parker BBC Drama Award in 2013 and was nominated for the best new play in the Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2014. When it played at the Irish Arts Center in New York City last March, it became a New York Times Critic’s Pick.
Created by interviewing people in rural Ireland, “The Man in the Woman’s Shoes” tells the story of cobbler Pat Farnon as he goes the five mile journey into town to deliver a new pair of shoes to Kitsy Rainey, a “screeching tyrant of a woman.”
Murfi, who has appeared in the films “Ella Enchanted,” “The Commitments,” “Intermission” and most recently “Jimmy’s Hall,” has just starred opposite Cillian Murphy and Stephen Rea in Enda Walsh’s “Ballyturk,” which played to sold-out houses in Galway, Dublin and the National Theatre in London.
“In the same way we brought in Houses on the Moon Theatre Company last April,” Arts on the Lake Theatre Program Director James Shearwood said in a statement, “we are bringing in Mr. Murfi this year. We can have guest performers when the funding can be worked out.”
