Pizza Hut at 2585 South Road (Route 9) has reportedly shut down, and paper could be seen covering the windows and doors of the restaurant this week. A sign on the door made the closure official, instructing customers to frequent their Newburgh location nearly 15 miles away.
“Valued Pizza Hut Customer: This Pizza Hut location is closed," the sign states. "Please visit or call our Newburgh location at 845-562-6405 for dine-in or carryout. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your business over the years. We look forward to serving you at our Newburgh location.”
The Pizza Hut location in Poughkeepsie was the last one standing in Dutchess County after others closed in Fishkill and Wappingers Falls, both on Route 9. The latest closure comes on the heels of Papa John’s Pizza also leaving the area amid financial woes.
As of Wednesday, May 15, only Domino’s and Little Caesars are the only national chains left in Dutchess, with locations in the Town of Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park and Fishkill. Local eateries continue to thrive in the area, several of which have several pizzerias spread throughout the county.
