The regatta, held in Greenwich at Grass Island in a strong wind, featured 13 crews from Connecticut and New York, most of which had been practicing on the water for only a few weeks.
The day culminated with a gold medal for NRRA’s boys in the premier event, the first varsity eight. Kris Petreski and Liam McDonough helped power that boat to its first-place finish, with Petreski setting the pace in the stroke seat. On hand to award the medals was Connecticut state Sen. Scott Frantz.
NRRA also won gold in the boys junior varsity eight and the girls second novice eight. The girls boat featured five athletes who had never raced in a regatta before, who won first place in their first races.
