To the Editor:

As Pound Ridge GOP Chairman, I am extremely proud of our local slate of candidates and their stellar record both as community volunteers and elected officials. Dick Lyman is a highly respected Supervisor across Westchester County, as most recently evidenced by his leadership in spearheading the NEW Dawn ARC project for victims of domestic violence. Our fiscal efficiency and spirit of volunteerism are the envy of neighboring towns. Bonnie Schwartz, Pete Marchetti, and Debbie Damascus define community service, with resumes that could fill volumes. Our committee works tirelessly to find and endorse the most qualified candidates with unquestionable character, believing voters deserve nothing less. That’s why it’s appalling to witness what has transpired on the Democratic slates in both Pound Ridge and Bedford.

In Bedford, Mary Ann Carr is supported for re-election; while court documents have recently become public detailing her financial dealings with an 80-year-old local retired teacher in which Ms. Carr’s actions would appear to be seriously improper, especially for a public official. Despite knowledge of this, the Town Supervisor and Democratic Committee have unapologetically continued to campaign for her.

In Pound Ridge, Democrats nominated a candidate for Tax Receiver whose husband was recently arrested by the FBI for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme out of their home. While she has since dropped out of the race, had this arrest not happened, they would have gladly let this candidate personally handle over $40 million of taxpayer funds annually.

When candidates with problematic baggage pass a committee’s vetting process it infers either a serious lack of judgment, or worse, utter contempt for the voting public. Fortunately, these issues were exposed ahead of the election. Should voters worry if there’s more to come? I know on our end we’ve proudly delivered a slate of candidates that are an “open book”.
