A teenage student in Northern Westchester falsely reported an assault and robbery, police said.
Officers from the Pound Ridge Police Department and New York State Police troopers from Somers received the report of a robbery and assault at approximately 7:05 a.m. on Friday morning, April 12 at a bus stop on Trinity Pass Road. The false report led to a lengthy police investigation.
According to police, a 16-year-old alleged that she had been assaulted by a man who then stole two purses. A BOLO ("Be on the Lookout") alert was issued for a dark-skinned man with an accent who was allegedly operating a blue vehicle with several boxes inside.
State Police said that the investigation into the alleged robbery determined that the teen had fabricated the series of events and falsely reported the robbery. The reasoning behind the false accusation is unclear, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
The teen was issued a Family Court Appearance Ticket returnable to the Westchester County Youth Bureau on Thursday, April 18 for Falsely Reporting an Incident in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Bedford Central School District Superintendent Christopher Manno sent an email to parents at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Friday following the fraudulent report, advising that they had been notified of an incident involving a student that took place at a bus stop in Pound Ridge earlier. He noted that the student was in the custody of her parents.
In his email to parents, Manno said, “as always, please be attentive to your children when they travel to and from the bus stop.”
