POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- The Pound Ridge Library is introducing its 11th seminar from its series of DVD college-level seminars from the Teaching Company/Great Courses, "The Medieval World" from 1-3 p.m. Thursdays from April 16 through June 11.

"The Medieval World" will be given by Professor Dorsey Armstrong of Purdue University in the Schaffner Room.

The seminars present a wide variety of subjects by outstanding scholars from many of the major universities in the United States.

This program, the first of its kind in the country, is designed to provide a collegial, small-group setting for courses “you didn’t get a chance to take in college, but wanted to.” The subject matter of the seminars is quite extensive and delves into, e.g., history, art, religion, science, linguistics, etc.

The seminar series, designed and moderated by Lawrence Brotmann of Pound Ridge, consist of four 30-minute lectures, given weekly, usually for periods of three to 12 weeks per course.

Since each lecture will include group discussions, the size of the group will be limited.

The remaining course for the 2014-2015 series (dates to be announced) is “Introduction to Genealogy” (date to be announced). Future courses will include: “Lost Christianities: Battle for Authentication,” “Joy of Mathematics,” “The French Revolution,” “Comparative Religion,” “Big History” and others.

Light refreshments will be served. The seminars are free but registration is recommended.

The library is at 271 Westchester Ave.
