POUND RIDGE, N.Y. Looking like Olympic sprinters toeing the starting line, dozens of kids baskets in hand lined up outside yellow tape that was strewn across the playground at Pound Ridge Elementary School on Saturday morning for the Pound Ridge Recreation Departments annual Egg Hunt and Scramble.
The one we are having this morning is for kids in third grade and under, said David Goldberg, the towns recreation supervisor. We had one last night at the town park for kids in fourth through eighth grade and had about 40 show up.
Goldberg estimated that between the two egg hunts, the town would give away about 4,000 eggs and pieces of candy.
Weve been doing this a long time, Goldberg said. This is my seventh one, but I cant even begin to tell you how long the town has been doing it.
No egg hunt would be complete without an appearance of the Easter Bunny, who was played by 10th-grader Dodge Sgaglio this year. The bunny was a big hit as children scrambled to hug him and pose for pictures as parents almost as excited as their kids snapped away on their cameras and smart phones.
Weve been coming to this for about five years, said Xenia DAmbrosi, who was there with her 5-year-old son, Dominic. First, it was with my oldest son and now its with my youngest. Its a great hometown feeling and the kids have a wonderful time. It will take about a week to get through all the chocolate. It seems like we just finished the Halloween candy.
The egg hunt featured several ancillary events, including an egg decorating contest and a guess the number of jellybeans in the jar contest. The winners each received a basket full of goodies. Prizes were given out for the best decorated egg in each grade, as well for an overall grand prize. There was also an award for the most comical egg. The egg decoration contest winners were: Kayden Lamanuzzi (K), Oona Owen (first grade), Calder Worlack (second grade) and Cole Savitz Vogel (third grade). Claire Patterson won for most comical and Maddie Wiener was the grand prize winner. Katherine Stoker won the jellybean contest.
I got about seven bunnies, chocolate and vanilla, said third-grader Elliott Coulter proudly. It was intense and I didnt even care if I got woodchips in my shoes. People were trying to trample me, but I just wanted candy!
