POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – Chief David Ryan has been the head of the Pound Ridge Police Department for more than 11 years. Between catching bad guys and attending to the mounds of paperwork he must detail, the chief took time from his busy schedule to answer five questions from The Daily Pound Ridge.

Q: What do you like best about your job?

A: That's not a simple question. But I love working with the kids at the elementary school and working with the senior citizens. This town has a lot of people working together. There is a great team of town employees that come together to get things done. I think it’s the best town on Earth.

Q: What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?

A: Trying to change the way drivers drive. It’s a huge quality of life issue here. There’s not a lot of crime, but the volume of traffic is high. With policies and speed reduction (laws) we have done a very good job. We’ve reduced personal injury accidents significantly. It’s been a team effort. Westchester Avenue used to be much faster. People were upset at first when we changed the speed limit, but they’ve accepted it.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time – if you have any?

A: If I am not working, I’m spending time with my two daughters. I cherish every moment I have with them. My youngest daughter likes to go horseback riding, hiking, kayaking. We like to go to the movies, shopping.

Q: Where is your favorite place to eat out?

A: Blazer’s in Purdys. It’s a small restaurant but the staff is absolutely wonderful. Zagat rated them the best hamburger in Westchester County. They have great wings and chili too. I go there as much to socialize as I do for the food.

Q: Who is your favorite author?

A: My favorite author is Dan Brown and “The Da Vinci Code” is my favorite book. I also like “The Slave Next Door” by Ron Soodalterf. He comes and speaks here about human trafficking. The first 15 pages of his books are gut-wrenching. You shake your head when you read it. It really drove home the issue of human trafficking.
