The incident began just before 7 p.m. on Monday, April 28, when New Rochelle Police officers responded to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital after a 34-year-old male walked in with a deep laceration running from near his ear to his mouth, the department announced on Tuesday, April 29.
According to police, the victim required around 60 stitches, but was uncooperative and refused to provide details about the attack, including whether it even occurred in New Rochelle.
Just minutes after officers left the hospital, dispatchers received a call from MTA Police at Grand Central, who reported that a man had approached them and confessed to the slashing.
The suspect, identified as Dante Frazier, 26, of Cambria Heights, Queens, told officers he slashed the victim during a heated argument outside 117 Guion Pl. in New Rochelle and then fled to Manhattan. He also turned over the pocketknife used in the assault, according to police.
Detectives then responded to 117 Guion Pl., where they found blood evidence on the sidewalk.
Frazier was taken back to New Rochelle Police Headquarters, where investigators confirmed that he and the victim knew each other and had gotten into a verbal altercation before the slashing.
Frazier was charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Rochelle Police Department at 914-654-2300 or anonymously at 914-632-COPS.
