POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- The Pound Ridge Library is continuing a new educational concept: a series of DVD college-level seminars from The Teaching Company/Great Courses on a wide variety of subjects, presented by scholars from universities in the United States.

This program, the first of its kind in the country, is designed to provide a collegial, small-group setting for courses “you didn’t get a chance to take in college, but wanted to.” The subject matter of the seminars is quite extensive and delves into, history, art, religion, science, linguistics, etc.

The seminars, designed and moderated by Lawrence Brotmann of Pound Ridge, consist of a series of four 30-minute lectures, given weekly, usually for periods of 3 to 12 weeks per course. Since each of the weekly lectures includes group discussions, the size of the group will be limited.

The fourteenth of these DVD seminars, “A History of European Art,” will be given by Prof. William Kloss of the Smithsonian Institution, on Thursdays, Sept. 3 through Nov. 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. The remaining courses planned for the 2015-2016 series, dates to be announced, are: “The Story of Human Language,” “Big History” and “Comparative Religion.”

All the seminars will be held at the Pound Ridge Library Schaffner Room. Light refreshments will be served. The seminars are free and open to the public, but registration is recommended.

The Library is located at 271 Westchester Avenue in Pound Ridge, New York. To register, contact the Library by phone or via email at
