With a line of potentially strong storms moving toward the region, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire region.

It's in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 21. It was issued at 12:30 p.m.

The storms will bring damaging wind gusts, the weather service said. Lightning is also expected and hail is possible. In addition, isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

"The collision with the warm air lingering along the East Coast early on Wednesday and the fresh push of cold Arctic air, will help create an unstable enough environment for thunderstorms on Wednesday," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Paul Walker.

In wake of the cold front expect strong west to west-northwest winds Wednesday night and especially on Thursday, April 22, said the National Weather Service, noting that a Wind Advisory may be needed.

Behind the rain, much colder air will move through, with breezy conditions developing Wednesday night.

Temperatures will fall to the low 30s overnight, with wind-chill values in the low 20s.

Thursday will be mostly sunny, blustery, and unseasonably cold, with a high temperature in the upper 40s and wind-chill values between 20 and 30 degrees in the morning.

Wind strength will be around 20 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
