Port Chester's Michael T. Smith, 84, Was A Gardener Extraordinaire

Michael T. Smith, a longtime resident of Port Chester, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Greenwich Hospital.

For many years, Michael T. Smith worked as a gardener for the Greenwich Parks Department.

Born in Port Chester on July 30, 1938, he was the son of Michael J. and Margaret (Blakesley). 

Michael is survived by his wife Medelyn (Ronquero); sisters Kathleen Remington and Peggy Dunleavy; nephews Eric and Brian; nieces Tara, Kris, and Meghan; and many great-nieces and -nephews—including his beloved great-niece Shylin Santana. 

In addition to his parents, Michael is pre-deceased by his siblings Nora and James. 

Mickey was a passionate gardener planting and maintaining gardens in Greenwich, Port Chester, and his sister’s home in Suffield, CT, and working for many years as a gardener for the Greenwich Parks Department. 

In retirement, he enjoyed traveling across the world, particularly extended visits to Medey’s family in the Philippines. He was also an avid collector of books, stamps, coins, and scout and military memorabilia. 

A visitation for Michael will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home at 31 Arch Street in Greenwich. A prayer service will be celebrated at 2:00 pm.
