Putnam County Sheriff’s Department officers say they responded to a Putnam 911 dispatch that reported a one-car property damage accident on Peekskill Hollow Road in the area of the Taconic State Parkway on Saturday, June 8 around 7:45 a.m.

Further investigation revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to meander from the roadway and strike a tree head-on, police say.

The driver, identified as Jaime Ramon, of Peekskill, was determined to be intoxicated, according to police.

Police say Ramon had been ordered to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle he operated as a result of a prior DWI conviction, but the vehicle he was driving at the time of the incident was not equipped with one.

Ramon’s driving privileges had also been suspended in the state of New York in December of 2016 due to an aggravated DWI conviction and once again on May 2, 2013 for another DWI conviction.

Ramon was arrested and transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing, where he was charged with the following:

  • Aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony
  • Having a BAC of .18 or higher
  • Driving while intoxicated, a felony
  • First-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony
  • Circumventing a court-ordered vehicle interlock device, a misdemeanor

Ramon was arraigned by the Hon. Justice Joseph Spofford in the Town of Carmel Justice Court on behalf of the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court. Ramon was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond.
