“Now is your chance to be creative,” said Latimer at the Thursday, June 20 press conference. “Any and all submissions will be considered. This is our ride, it belongs to the whole County, and there is no better way to welcome the first new ride in 11 years than to have the people of the County name it.”
The ride was named ‘Disk’O 24’ by Zamperla, its manufacturer and the largest ride manufacturing company in the world. Latimer, however, is asking the public to send ideas for a new name to Communications@WestchesterGov.com.
Submissions will be accepted until Monday, July 1, and a Westchester County camp group will choose the winning name.
The ride is currently in the early stages of assembly. It arrived from Italy in three shipping containers and will be adorned with Coaster, the park’s dragon mascot.
The opening date for the ride is flexible, but park officials say it should be ready for riders at some point in July.
“Like all construction projects it is difficult to pinpoint an exact date it will be done, and this project is heavily dependent on good weather,” said Westchester Parks Deputy Commissioner Peter Tartaglia. “If all goes according to plan, visitors will be enjoying this ride in July.”
