Get Financial Improvement Tips At Greenwich United Way Program

GREENWICH, CONN. -- Greenwich United Way officials say nearly 20 percent of the town's population is at or below poverty level or employed with limited assets, so they are inviting people to take part in a presentation Monday at the Greenwich Library about making tough choices to improve financial health.

Those living at the ALICE level (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) can learn more about how to make tough choices to improve finances at a Nov. 21 program at the Greenwich Library hosted by Greenwich United Way.

David Rabin, CEO of the Greenwich United Way, will walk people through the new "Making Touch Choices" virtual simulator and help them learn more about making an assessment of financial health. The program is at 11 a.m. at the library, 101 W. Putman Ave., Greenwich.

Rabin will explain the term ALICE., which means Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, and how to take action to improve household finances. Attendees also will learn about Greenwich United Way programs to support people in the community who are at risk, officials said.

United Way officials said about 5 percent of the town's population, or about 3,250 people, live at or below poverty level. Another 15 percent, or about 9,150 people, are living at the ALICE level, which is just above poverty level but below a cost-of-living threshold, officials said.

"This is a great opportunity for us to help people in our town understand the need and hopefully motivate them to take action," Rabin said.
