Pleasantville High Students Awarded For Science Research Project

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- A multi-year science research project was presented by five Pleasantville high school seniors at the 2016 Westchester Science & Engineering Fair (WESEF) on Saturday, March 12, at Sleepy Hollow High School.

The Pleasantville High students who worked on the project were: Omeed Ansari, Philip Garbarini, Benjamin Marshak, James McCarthy and Sabrina Mittelstad.

The event attracted 550 students from more than 30 high schools in Westchester and Putnam counties.

WESEF is the regional version of the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.

Mittelstadt and McCarthy were among those recognized with special awards for their research.

Mittelstadt received one of five awards sponsored by the American Psychological Association for Outstanding Research in Psychological Science; and McCarthy was one of three students whose research earned The Environmental Perspiration Award for environmental projects or engineering projects with an environmental focus, sponsored by Robert Weirter.

In Category Awards, Marshak received a fourth- place award in Environmental Science, sponsored by the Westchester Academy of Medicine.

Ed Dans is the director of Pleasantville High's Science Research program, which currently has 26 students enrolled from grades 10 -12.
