Pleasantville High Listed Among Nation's Best

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Pleasantville High School was listed among the nation's best public high schools in rankings compiled and released by Newsweek on Sunday.

Pleasantville was ranked 173 in the nation and 28 in the state out of 1,000 schools listed. The highest rankings went to schools "that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads," Newsweek explained. Pleasantville was not included on last year's list.

"This is a wonderful honor for our students and the staff here at Pleasantville High School," said Principal Dawn Bartz. "Being selected as one of the top-performing schools in the state and the country by Newsweek Magazine is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff. It recognizes the academic rigor of our curricular program and the inclusiveness, and breadth, of our Advanced Placement program. I am very proud to be the principal of such a wonderful school community."

The list is based on graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student (5 percent).

According to Newsweek, Pleasantville's graduation rate is 99 percent, its college matriculation rate is 92 percent, its average SAT scores are 1661 and its average ACT scores are 25.1.

Pleasantville also was 364 in the nation and 34 in the state in the Washington Post's High School Challenge rankings released Friday.
