Boces Names New Superintendent

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Dr. James M. Ryan, former superintendent of Carmel Central School District, has been appointed superintendent of Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES, replacing Dr. James T. Langlois who retires on June 30.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Ryan to the BOCES family,” said Richard Kreps, president of the BOCES Board of Education. “I know Dr. Ryan from his term in Carmel where I am the board president and he excelled at Carmel Central School District and we know he will excel here at BOCES.” 

Ryan, who holds a doctorate in education from Fordham University and a master’s from Western Connecticut State College, served as superintendent of the 4,500-student Carmel district for seven years before retiring in July 2015. 

Prior to Carmel, Ryan served as superintendent of Rockland BOCES for six years  From July 1997 to February 2002, Ryan was the deputy superintendent of Rockland BOCES. During his career, Ryan also has worked as director of program development and human resources for Rockland BOCES, director of secondary education and personnel for Ossining Union Free School District, principal of Ossining High School, assistant principal of Monroe Woodbury Senior High School and as a dean and teacher in the Lakeland Central School District.
