The body of a local man was pulled from the water after police say his kayak overturned in Lake Mahopac.

On Monday, July 22 at 1:40 p.m., the Town of Carmel Police received a report of a missing 55-year-old Mahopac resident, Carmel Police Chief Michael Cazzari said.

A search of the area around his South Lake Blvd home found his kayak overturned in Lake Mahopac, according to Cazzari.

The Carmel Police Department Marine unit began a search of the lake near the kayak and the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department Dive Team was requested. The Drive Team entered Lake Mahopac and recovered the body of the drowning victim, said Cazzari.

The victim's name is being held until the family has been notified.

It was the second time in as many days a middle-aged man drowned in a lake in Putnam County.

At around 5:30 a.m., Monday, the body of a swimmer from Connecticut who went missing in Lake Carmel on Saturday, July 20 was located. For more on that story, click here.
