Man Killed When Compact SUV Crashes Into Cement Pillar On LI Expressway

A 47-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway.

The crash happened on the eastbound side at Half Hollow Road in Melville at about 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

Jhonny Barros-Chauca, of Bay Shore, was driving a 2015 Honda CR-V when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a cement pillar at Half Hollow Road, Suffolk County Police said.

Barros-Chauca was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
