PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sally Tallman Cornell, formerly of Pleasantville, died Jan. 24. She was 82.
The daughter of William and Anne Tallman, Cornell was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Mount Kisco. Raised in Rapid City, S.D., and Chattanooga, Tenn., she received a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
A resident of Pleasantville for more than 30 years, she was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She also lived in Ridgefield, Conn., for more than 15 years, and was a parishioner of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
Cornell worked as a teachers' aide at Pleasantville Cottage School for more than 10 years. She volunteered with numerous organizations, including serving as a minister at St. Stephen's.
She enjoyed traveling, and her interest in other cultures took her on trips throughout the world. She was most recently of West Harwich, Mass.
Cornell is survived by two sons, William (Endah), of Dallas, and Evan (Karen), of Ligonier, Pa.; two daughters, Marjorie (Gregory) Shymske, of Naperville, Ill., and Rebecca (Thomas) Ahrensfeld, of Harwich, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Allison Hardwick and Susan (Kenneth) Johnson; and a brother, George (Diane) Tallman. A brother, John Tallman, predeceased her.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
