Malik Stringer of North Brunswick has been charged with first-degree murder and is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and New Brunswick Police Director Anthony A. Caputo.

Stringer allegedly shot and killed Nathaniel Edwards, Jr., 23, of East Brunswick, they said.

On Jan. 9 at 10:18 a.m., New Brunswick police responded to Remsen Avenue and Seaman Street for a shooting. Police found Edwards suffering from a gunshot wound, Ciccone and Caputo said. Edwards was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

An investigation by Detective Brandt Gregus of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Ryan Tighe of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office identified Stringer as the shooter.

On Monday, Stringer was arrested without incident in Atlanta, Georgia by members of the FBI. Stringer has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and a weapons offense, the prosecutor said.

Upon his return to New Jersey, Striner will be held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Gregus at 732-745-5200 or Detective Tighe at 732-745-4335.
