Restaurant Grand Opening A Home Run For Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A Tuesday morning ribbon cutting officially welcomed Louie & Johnnie’s Cheese Steak & Clam Bar to its new home on Marble Avenue, where village officials hope it will stay for a long time.

“We’re delighted to be here with one of Pleasantville’s newest businesses,” said Mayor Peter Scherer. “I hope that I’ll be back here for your tenth anniversary. “

Louie & Johnnie’s, which also has locations in Yonkers and Eastchester, opened its Pleasantville doors with a soft opening two months ago. Co-owner John Greco said the early response from the public makes him confident he chose the right community.

“I think it’s a huge family community. Young children, families, we like the town. It’s a nice town,” Greco said. “They’ve shown the support and the community’s been great.”

The restaurant may be especially popular with sports fans, with memorabilia from the Yankees, Jets, Giants, Knicks, Mets and more lining the walls, including a mini-replica of Monument Park in Yankee Stadium hanging above the bar.

The memorabilia was provided by Steiner Sports. Greco said the partnership allows the restaurant to sell pictures, autographed balls, Last Licks ice cream, and more. He said every two or three weeks, Louie & Johnnie’s will also have different athletes coming to sign autographs. Former MLB All-Star Cecil Fielder, who was on the Yankees Championship team in 1996 signed autographs Tuesday.

“[Brandon] Steiner’s been a long-time friend of ours, and he actually gave us the idea about selling his memorabilia,” Greco said.

Cheese steaks and clams may sound like an odd combination, but Greco believes there is definitely a market for his restaurant. Louie & Johnnie’s also serves burgers, crab cakes, shrimp, chicken wings, and more.

“It’s just a very casual, family environment,” he said.
